Abu Dhabi: the Road to Becoming a Major Tourism Destination
Tampa, FL - (ZPRYME NEWS) – 05/14/08 - In an Industry Press Release “Abu Dhabi lifts tourism targets: 2.7 million by 2012 end six service delivery Priorities define five-year plan”, Arabian Business reported that the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), which is the head authority in the management of the tourism in Abu Dhabi increased its tourists projections that were set in the year 2004. By 2012, the projected annual guests for its hotels are to reach 2.7 million or up by 12.5 percent. This projection also calls for more hotel rooms which are expected to reach at 25,000 by 2012.
The targets are also expected to be realized through the six service delivery focuses which are: sector standardization, tourism experience enhancement, improvement in the transportation and upgrades in visa processing, increase in international marketing, product development and capitalization of the distinctive culture of United Emirates’ culture and traditions. According to the Director General of the ADTA, His Excellency Mubarak Al Muhairi, the government of Abu Dhabi seeks to be recognized not only as a great economy to reckon but also as a great commerce and leisure destination. He added that together with this objective is the responsibility for Abu Dhabi to guarantee to build a tourism strategy that would allow it to respect its cultural heritage. At present, ADTA still takes a conservative move toward its guest targets until it is able to build the necessary infrastructure that would satisfy its demand. Also, aside from the guest targets of Abu Dhabi, it aims to build a number of infrastructures by the end of 2009 and among these are the Liwa Desert Qasr Al Sarab, the Sir Bani Yas Island Desert Islands Resort, the Park Rotana Hotel, the Par 72 Saadiyat Beach Golf Course, and the Yas Island Formula One race track.
Abu Dhabi Tourism on “24 CO-Exhibitors at Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority’s Stand In GIBTM-2008”, reported that it was able to make an attractive stand in the three day exhibit hosted by Abu Dhabi. The exhibit featured 20 stands and four corporate corners which showcases the local architecture and culture of Dhabi. According to the Marketing Division Director of ADTA, Julie Bishop, the ADTA Stand enhances the awareness and Respect for Abu Dhabi Brand for the GITBM exhibitors, the visitors and others.
Also, according to AME Info on “ADTA promotion creating demand at ATM for Abu Dhabi tourism industry”, ADTA utilized the four-day Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in order to feature the expansion of the tourism infrastructure in Abu Dhabi with the end goal to increase the interest of tourist to go to Abu Dhabi as another travel destination. The ATM is considered by ADTA as a platform for it to promote its tourism sector and recently, aside from its offices in the United Kingdom, Germany and in France, the ADTA plans to establish offices in Italy, China, and Australia in 2012.
For the many efforts that Abu Dhabi does in order to put its tourism industry in the forefront, the Travel Daily News said that all the efforts of the government of Abu Dhabi and the developments in the city paid off when it impressed the most admired CEO of the world, Jack Welch, who after a visit to Saadiyat Island Development Exhibition in the Emirates Palace was amazed by the remarkable improvements in Abu Dhabi and became curious and interested with the multi billion tourism project in Abu Dhabi at Saadiyat Island.
