Austin, TX - (ZPRYME NEWS) – 05/14/08 - There is economic growth in Mexico and the country still faces immigration problems. The Mexican government estimated that the economy grew by at least 3% and will still continue to grow for the year. According to Bloomberg, “Mexico’s Finance Ministry estimated the economy grew 3 percent in the first quarter and budget surplus of 100.8 billion pesos.” Converted to dollars, that is around $9.6 billion. For the rest of the year, the economy is expected to grow another 2.8 percent.

Part of this change of the economy is due to the small towns that promote tourism. The Mexican middle class visits these tourist towns and pump money to the locality while they enjoy their weekend. According to USA Today quoting the Tourism Department, “On weekends, a line of Chevrolet hatchbacks and other inexpensive new cars snakes into parking lots at the town’s water-slide parks.” Tourists enjoy the parks while eating food and taking pictures with their cameras. New tourists come each year.

While tourism is help boost the economy, cheap labor is still prevalent. The Chicago Tribune reported that, “Mexico also faces scrutiny for its treatment of Latin Americans who cross into its territory each year. Though most migrants are en route to the U.S.” While staying in Mexico, they become part of the cheap labor force.
