Austin, TX - (ZPRYME NEWS) – 05/14/08 - There is economic growth in Mexico and the country still faces immigration problems. The Mexican government estimated that the economy grew by at least 3% and will still continue to grow for the year. According to Bloomberg, “Mexico’s Finance Ministry estimated the economy grew 3 percent in the first quarter and budget surplus of 100.8 billion pesos.” Converted to dollars, that is around $9.6 billion. For the rest of the year, the economy is expected to grow another 2.8 percent.

Largest Acquisitions by Mexican-Based Companies: the Trends in Mexican Acquisition Activities

Austin, TX - (ZPRYME NEWS) – 04/28/08 - According to Transaction Services M&A Insights: March 2007 Analysis and Trends in Mexican M&A Activity, significant increases in mergers and acquisitions originating from Mexico were completed in 2006,with more than 50; up from 25 in 2005. However, the figure does not include the undisclosed or private deals and transactions. In 2005, the deal value was about $6.5 billion which increased in 2006 to $8.3 billion. In terms of cross-border deals, Mexico-based companies doubled the 10 deals in 2005 to 20 deals in 2006.

Mexico: Mobile Phones Jammed in Houses of Worship

Austin, TX - (ZPRYME NEWS) – 04/14/08 - Churches in Mexico took an extra step in making Mass a solemn event by jamming cell phone signals in the church. In an MSNBC report, “It was the reporters who noticed first. Unable to call their editors while covering the weddings of the rich and famous, they asked the priest why their cell phones never worked at Sacred Heart.”
