Zpryme in partnership with Panasonic recently surveyed 150 utilities to better understand how augmented reality (AR) could be deployed on mobile devices. The key findings below show that immediate applications will be used to optimize mobile workforce efficiency and in GIS asset locating.
AR’s potential to bring intelligence into real-time situations in the field will be a game-changer for utilities. Real-time intelligence will reduce system down time, increase worker safety and increase overall customer satisfaction.
As more data streams are fed into AR applications the potential for distribution at the grid edge further materializes. With AR the concept of a field worker who can work across industries starts to become a reality when data applications can be shared across platforms and infrastructure.
What’s Next?
Uber and Lyft started with disrupting the taxi industry and have moved on to tackling the entire transportation ecosystem. It is my bet that AR technology will have a similar impact across many industries.
