The 2022 WE3 Summit Innovator Awards highlight companies and individuals advancing innovation and adoption in the water and energy space.

Los Angeles (November 29, 2022) – While election results are still coming in, some winners are clear, like the 2022 WE3 Innovator Award Winners. Some of the world’s leaders in water, energy and technology gathered at the WE3 Summit- Hosted by SEW and Zpryme, to celebrate the winners of this year’s WE3 Innovator Awards. 

The WE3 Innovator Awards honor companies and individuals who are advancing CleanTech in the water and energy space. The WE3 Summit Committee chose the award honorees from many publicly nominated innovators.

The WE3 Summit focus is to connect global thought leaders who are spearheading our water-energy future. The summit provides a forum to drive solutions and dialogue between utilities, government, and tech innovators who are leading the new era of sustainability where global access to clean water and energy become actionable. This year’s summit focused on conversations and action around net zero, emobility, decarbonization, and digital technologies.

The 2022 Honorees were honored at the WE3 Innovator Award Gala at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Water/Energy Nexus Innovator of the Year – Dawn Roth Lindell, General Manager, Burbank Water and Power, recognized for their innovative community conservation programs, EV charging program, and battery storage initiatives. 

ESG Leader of the Year  – Jill Anderson, EVP, Operations, Southern California Edison, recognized for their holistic approach and investments in ESG, which encompass climate adaptation, operational excellence, DEI, transportation electrification, financial performance, protecting endangered species and natural resources, and  investments for disadvantaged communities. 

Sustainability Leader of the Year – Martin Adams, GM, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, recognized for their 2035 target to achieve a 100% carbon-free grid. 

Net-Zero Leader of the Year – Paul Lau, CEO and GM, SMUD, recognized for their 2030 Zero Carbon Plan, which aims to reach zero carbon emissions in their power supply by 2030. 

Customer Programs Leader of the Year (tied for first) – DeAnna Hardwick, Interim Executive Vice President of Customer Strategy, CPS Energy, James Douglas, Executive Vice President, Customer Experience, Alectra 

CPS Energy was recognized for their innovative partnership with San Antonio Water System to help achieve customer resilience and for facilitating a passing of $42.5 million in surplus revenue back to customers.

Alectra was recognized for their continued commitment to customer innovation, community centric investments in education, health, and commitment to DEI scholarships through their partnership with York University’s Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change. 

The awards also celebrated many global future-minded leaders and organizations who have harnessed the power of the digital innovation and technologies to innovate and set examples in building intelligent energy and water enterprises. The 2022 winners of Global SEW Digital Energy and Water Awards showcased the great work of changemakers who have changed the way we use energy and are creating positive economic, environmental, and/or social impact to help the world run better. 

Among the winners were San Diego Gas & Electric, Alectra Utilities, UGI, Burbank Water and Power, Tata Power, SMUD, and Southwest Gas under the Customer Innovation category who set new standards for creating value, contributing to communities, and improving experience through technology innovation — essentially making a difference in improving people’s lives.
