February 2019 event to feature innovative technologies, dialogue aimed at inspiring actionable smart city partnerships and programs focused on citizens.

San Antonio (November 26, 2018) – Zpryme, an Austin-based energy and technology research company, today announced that it is partnering with San Antonio energy utility CPS Energy to host the inaugural “City of the Future” conference at San Antonio’s Tobin Center on February 25 – 26, 2019. The unique, first-of-its-kind event aims to create a national forum that inspires communities, people and companies to create actionable smart city partnerships, as well as programs that meet the needs of all people.

“For years, there’s been increasing buzz about exactly what future cities will look like and how they will be shaped by new technologies. However, an important element that often gets lost in this discussion are the people of these cities,” said Jason Rodriguez, CEO of Zpryme. “With ‘City of the Future’ we are establishing a platform that is focused on building partnerships focused on creating thriving communities by using universal technologies to meet the needs of all citizens today and tomorrow. Through a series of ground-breaking dialogues, demonstrations, tours, technologies showcases, and more, we expect to bring to life the vision of what tomorrow’s cities will look like and how they will work like never before.”

CPS Energy, which has 820,000 electricity customers and more than 347,000 natural gas customers in the Alamo City and surrounding areas, sees ‘City of the Future’ as the springboard that will help shape and inspire what San Antonio’s future will look like. Along with featuring speakers such as President & CEO Paula Gold-Williams, and hosting sessions surrounding innovative technologies and energy services, the nation’s largest community-owned, vertically integrated electric and gas company will use the event to showcase an interactive virtual reality (VR) tour, with technology developed by Zpryme, to feature what San Antonio is expected to be like in the future. Attendees will get a glimpse of how the city will meet the needs of a projected 1 million new residents by 2040 through innovative transport programs, autonomous vehicles and intelligent infrastructure all of which will enable a newly sustainable and digitally connected community.

“We are extremely excited to be partnering with Zpryme to host the ‘City of the Future’ conference in San Antonio,” said Gold-Williams, who was named Thought Leader of the Year at Zpryme’s annual Energy Thought Summit in March. “Communities across the globe are working together through partnerships with city leaders and utilities to merge the convergence of what its citizens need and how technology can meet those needs.  San Antonio is at the forefront of those discussions and, along with our municipal leaders and partner organizations, we will emerge as a city of the future.”  Gold-Williams also serves as a co-chair of the energy pillar of the Dentons Smart Cities & Communities Think Tank that brings industry experts in technology, academia, government and stakeholders from across the globe to find innovative solutions for the future.

Rodriguez concluded: “We’re thrilled to have San Antonio, one of the most innovative municipalities and fastest growing cities in the nation, host this historic event. We’re also ecstatic to partner with the leading minds at CPS Energy as their innovative ideas; technologies and services have and continue to transform our communities as well as the way people live.”

About City of the Future

What makes a city and what will the cities of the future look like? At the center of the city narrative are people. As people go, so do cities. And what are the fundamental needs of people? A place to call home with people we love and work that provides fulfillment and a sense of self/contribution to the greater whole. Amenities that ensure we are safe, secure and healthy. Good food and a sense of wellness that is beyond measure. We now live in a time when all these needs can be provided, managed and enhanced through the technology that we develop to serve our needs. But we need to be conscious about maintaining the uniqueness of every city, even as the technology that we utilize is universal. Through a series of conversations, presentations, demonstrations, videos and tours, the City of the Future will be brought to life like it has never been brought before now. Join us in the City of San Antonio to experience a unique day and a half conference sponsored by CPS Energy. For more information, visit www.cityofthefuture.io.
