The percent of US customers using mobile apps to monitor their energy use more than doubled between 2013 and 2016. This increase represents a great opportunity for utilities to engage with and learn more about their customers. But, are utilities taking advantage of the opportunity? And how are they responding to challenges that new technologies and customer demands present?
Zpryme was curious about what makes a utility mobile app successful and what utility apps are lacking. We recently set out in search of the greatest utility app, and we’re excited to report on the results.
Key Findings include:
• 60% of utilities do not offer a mobile app
• Bill pay (71%), Outage Reporting (61%), and Outage Mapping (59%) are the most common features
• Energy monitoring appeared in half the apps reviewed
