Summary

The purpose of this monthly report is to track consumer sentiment about the priority level utilities should be placing on climate change initiatives and clean energy program investments in wind, solar, and electric vehicles (EVs). The results of the analysis are presented by age, U.S. region, and gender. The data in this report was collected at the end of June 2022.

The data and graphics in this report are from Zpryme’s monthly and quarterly consumer benchmarking surveys. Data is based upon a nationally representative survey sample of 1,000 U.S. adults (margin of error: +/- 3.5%).

Highlights

  • There was 43.1% of the respondents who said their utility should place a high priority on climate change, with the west having the biggest group (49.8%) who rated high priority.
  • A slightly larger group (47.3%) of respondents said their utility should place a high priority on investing in renewable energy, with the west, again, having the biggest high priority percentage (51.2%).
  • A review of findings from March 2021 to June 2022 revealed a one-month drop in the high priority level for climate change from 49.9% (May 2022) to 43.1% (June 2022), and a shift to an older group of respondents who had the largest group who rated high priority from the 18-24 year group in April and May 2022 (63.8% and 56.7%, respectively) to June’s (2022) 55-64 year group (48.6%). Those who rated a high priority about investing in renewable energy for June 2022 (47.3%) matched other high priority levels in the range of forty percentiles, as observed over 15 of the past 16 months.
