55% of people around the globe live in cities and that number is set to rise to 70% by 2050. In the United States 80% of people already live in cities, but many report doing so without a great deal of satisfaction. At their best, cities provide economic opportunity, cultural variety, and creative expression. However, too often the best qualities of cities are masked by inequality, lack of services, transportation gridlock, and poor environmental quality.
