Summary
The purpose of this monthly report is to track consumer interests in electric vehicles (EVs) and identify key insights based on age, U.S. region, and gender. This report further identifies major barriers facing consumers as it relates to their interest in purchasing an EV. Lastly, the data provides consumer perceptions about whether they view their utility as a key source of information for EVs. The data in this report was collected at the end of August 2021.

The data and graphics in this report are from Zpryme’s monthly and quarterly consumer benchmarking surveys. Data is based upon a nationally representative survey sample of 1,000 U.S. adults (margin of error: +/- 3.5%).
Highlights
- Those likely to purchase an EV in the next 12 months was 12.8% of all respondents, with the northeast having the biggest group of likely purchasers (17.9%).
- The biggest concerns about buying an EV were: too expensive (31.1%), don’t know enough about EV models (17.4%), and vehicle range (15.9%).
- Overall, 13.2% said they would likely ask their utility about EVs.
- A review of findings from March to August 2021 revealed an increase in those likely to buy an EV over the last three months (Jun, 10.1%; August, 12.8%). Being too expensive was still the biggest concern, which increased from May (25.3%) to August (31.1%). Likeliness to seek EV information from utilities dropped from 17.2% (June) to 13.2% (August).
