Austin, Texas – March 19, 2025 – Froliq is teaming up with Oracle to redefine grid management using a breakthrough in digital twins to drive real-time simulations of customer and utility scenarios. Leveraging Froliq’s augmented reality (AR)-based platform, Oracle Utilities Distributed Energy Resource Management System (Oracle Utilities DERMS), Oracle Utilities Digital Asset Management, and a prototype Industry Data Simulator application, utilities can model neighborhood-scale energy interactions to unlock new use cases for distributed energy resource (DER) adoption, including electric vehicles (EVs), solar, and smart thermostats.
As more renewable energy assets connect to the grid, customer experience and grid flexibility are becoming increasingly critical. With AR-powered visualization and digital twins, utilities can now see, simulate, and refine DER strategies in real time, supporting a more resilient, adaptive, and customer-centric energy system. Challenged with managing millions of customer-owned devices, utilities can create dynamic, real-world scenarios that help improve forecasting, grid stability, and demand response strategies.
The Froliq platform fuses digital twins, AR visualization, and interactive simulation, bridging the gap between technical grid management and intuitive, real-time decision-making. This enhanced user experience allows utilities to model the impact of DER adoption, test and engage in more interactive planning to optimize the future energy landscape.
Highlights of this experience:
- Neighborhood-Scale Simulation: Models real-time interactions of 16 homes with up to four potential DER devices, whether installed or uninstalled.
- Live Network Integration: Seamlessly connects simulations with Oracle’s real-time utility Network Management System (NMS) software.
- Insight-Driven Grid Optimization: Provides utilities with a clearer view of DER adoption impacts and supports the design load-balancing responses.
- Immersive AR-Powered Grid Visualization: Transforms complex grid data into an interactive, real-time experience, helping utilities understand DER impacts at a glance.
- Customer-Centric Energy Modeling: Treats each household as a unique energy persona, allowing for personalized energy simulations and engagement strategies.
“As more distributed energy resources are adopted by customers around the world, energy companies need new tools to identify, model, and manage those resources through core grid operations, said Mike Ballard, Vice President for Utilities Industry Strategy at Oracle Utilities. “Traditional power flow and balancing models are no longer fit for purpose. The industry seeks new paradigms in energy management and simulation tools to support the highly dynamic, unpredictable adoption and use of DERs. The Oracle Industry Data Simulator is the latest of many innovations originating from the Oracle Industry Lab, and we are excited to collaborate again with Froliq to combine our strengths in industry simulation.”
“As customers take the wheel in the energy transition, utilities need real-time tools to adapt,” said Mark Ishac, Managing Director at Froliq. “My father used to say the best ideas ‘sell like hotcakes’—but in energy, the best ideas transform. By merging digital twins with AR, we’re turning complex grid data into a beautifully visual, interactive experience where every home, EV, and solar panel actively shapes a smarter, more resilient energy future.”
Scaling Innovation Across North America
This latest advancement builds on the Froliq platform’s capabilities, previously demonstrated in Oracle and Froliq’s AR-focused collaboration last year and showcased in a pioneering AR app. Now, the focus is on scaling this technology across North America, enabling utilities to integrate real-time digital twin simulations at a broader scale. By embedding DER simulation into live network management, this breakthrough sets a new standard for how utilities plan and operate in an increasingly decentralized and renewable-driven grid.
