Spatial data has lived in utilities for years, but often resided in specific departments, such as engineering or operations and often managed by the mapping department. With distributed energy resources, IoT and smart cities knocking at utilities’ doors, now is the time to unleash the power of spatial data to help utilities address a variety of opportunities and challenges facing them. This study explores how spatial data can help utilities address what’s next for energy, and the role of location-based information across the utility enterprise.
