Around the globe, rural communities often struggle with reliable and affordable access to energy and safe drinking water. Renewable energy, micro clean drinking water, and sanitation projects can help provide economic opportunities and life-saving infrastructure for people sustainably. The United Nations has established sustainable development goals and three of them speak directly to the importance of clean water and energy: #6 Clean Water and Sanitation, #7 Affordable and Clean Energy, and #17 Partnerships for the Goals. To achieve these goals organizations like Green Empowerment works with rural communities and partners around the world to improve access to affordable and renewable energy, safe drinking water, sanitation systems, fuel-efficient cookstoves, and more. Their projects also improve health outcomes, build climate change resilience, empower and educate women, create opportunities for income generation, and more. Andrea Johnson, the Executive Director of Green Empowerment, shares her thoughts on sustainable projects and the power of clean energy to transform rural communities.
