With another active hurricane and western wildfire season projected for the U.S. this summer, utilities and the power industry will be in the spotlight again. Zpryme survey results from May 2021 show that by far, respondents in the West (34.6%) expressed the most concern with their utility about long term storm outages.
Not surprisingly, those in the Western region also represented the largest group (19.0%) likely to buy a distributed energy resource (DER), usually in the form of solar energy systems. From March to May, those that said they would seek solar information from their utility has increased from 9.1% to 13.7%.
As climate induced extreme weather continues to accelerate, utilities can expect an increase in customer requests for information about power reliability concerns and guidance on home generation options.
